In order to run Adobe-compatible plugins under GIMP you must to do following:
1. Download GIMP extension PSPI from http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/gimp-pspi-1.0.7.win32.zip

2. Extract downloaded ZIP file to GIMP install folder (usually c:\Program Files\Gimp-2.0)

IMPORTANT: file pspi.exe must be in “c:\Program Files\Gimp-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins” folder where “c:\Program Files\Gimp-2.0” is a GIMP installation folder).
Do not run this file – it is a GIMP extension, not stand-alone application.

3. Install third-party Adobe-compatible plugin (for example ImageSkill Tile Builder http://www.imageskill.com/tilebuilder/TileBuilder_Demo_Setup.exe ) to any folder (default folder for ImageSkill Tile Builder is “C:\Program Files\ImageSkill\Tile Builder Demo”)

3. Run (or re-run) GIMP and set folder for Adobe-compatible plugin using “Filters->Photoshop plugin settings” command (you will see it if install PSPI correctly)

4. Set “C:\Program Files\ImageSkill” as Adobe-compatible plugin folder.

7. Create layer (add alpha channel)  from image using “Layer->Transparency->Add Alpha Channel” command. It needs if you will run plugins that request layer (transparency) feature.

7. Run Tile Builder using “Filters->ImageSkill->Tile Builder” command.

XnView supports transparency feature, so you can run plugins that use alpha channel like ImageSkill Background Remover (http://www.imageskill.com/backgroundremover/backgroundremover.html)

Our installers detect XnView and you simple choose “XnView” item from detected graphic hosts list. But in any case you can attach any plugin to XnView.

In order to attach Adobe-compatible plugin to XnView, you can use 2 ways :

1. Simple copy plugin file (with .8bf file extension) to Path/To/XnView/8bf folder (not Plugins folder) where Path/To/XnView is path to XnView editor (default is C:\Program Files\XnView) and run (re-run) XnView.

The installed Adobe compatible plugins you can find at “Filters->Adobe Photoshop Plug-ins” menu item.

2. Install third-party Adobe-compatible plugin (for example ImageSkill Background Remover http://www.imageskill.com/backgroundremover/BackgroundRemover_Demo_Setup.exe ) to any folder (default folder for ImageSkill Background Remover is “C:\Program Files\ImageSkill\Background Remover 3”)

a) Run XnView, open an image(for example in JPEG format),

b) Add alpha channel using “Image-> 32 bits” command.

c) Run “Filter->Adobe Photoshop Plugins (Ctrl+G)” command,

d) Press “Configure” button add plugin’s path (in our case C:\Program Files\ImageSkill).

e) Press “ok”, then select ImageSkill->Background Remover 3 item from list and press “Start” button.
